Salmonella Food Poisoning Hits Supermarket Salads

VICTORIA- Salmonella food poisoning has got into packaged lettuce and salad at Woolworths and Coles. Tripod farmers are responsible for this outbreak.

Over 50 people have been diagnosed in Victoria with the food poisoning Salmonella. Woolworths and Coles as well as the weight loss company Lite ‘n’ Easy packaged lettuce has been identified with salmonella. The outbreak is believed to be chicken fertiliser which Tripod Farmers have been using to their salad.

Woolworths and Coles salad mixes and Coles 4 leaf mix as well as Supasalad Supamix and wash and toss salad mix have all been identified with salmonella poisoning. The salads best before dates leading up to and including February 14 will be affected with salmonella.

There have 54 cases of salmonella poisoning in packaged lettuce previously and now it’s risen to 62.

The Health Department noticed people becoming sick in late December but noticed a much bigger increase on February 2.

Woolworths and Coles have had to clear their packaged salad shelves.
