ZIKA VIRUS OUTBREAK SPREADS RAPIDLY

On the 12th of April, 2015, there was a world wide outbreak of a virus known as the Zika Virus. The virus affects birth of children by deforming brain development. This virus travels and is spread by a mosquito.

The zika virus has been everywhere from Ohio, to Kenya and is making its way to Brisbane Australia. This virus is unlikely to be fatal, although you can get very ill. One of the biggest reasons Zika is feared is because there is no known cure or vaccines for the virus. The estimated time to find the cure is 4 years. This virus is often mistaken for dieses like yellow fever, dengue and the west Nile virus, although it is quite different. The Zika virus was first found back in 1942 and was very common in places like Africa and Asia. It recently had its outbreak in April 2015 and is still going strong around the world in 2016. The Zika virus has currently claimed over 11,000 lives and has infected over 1.2 million human beings.

Many pregnant mothers fear this virus. The virus has the ability to completely deform children’s brain development. A child affected by Zika has a brain half the size of what it’s meant to be. This horrible virus also has the ability to kill the host.
