Out of the Alley

The cafe was a dimly lit and very tidy. Most of the seats were couches against the wall and had tables in front of them to eat on. The also had an extra chair on the opposite side of the table for more customers to use.

There were also tables with four chairs around them both inside and outside the cafe, although each table was very small and cramped.

Although the cafe was clean, a water jug had rust on the bottom. The typewriters and old decoration led to a creative vintage theme.

The waitresses of the cafe were very kind to us and asked what we would like with a friendly tone. As we pondered over what we would like, I sensed an impatience in the waitress.

Even though they were kind, the waitresses were slow, as it took a long time to get a pre-made gingerbread man, which led me to believe that the service of this cafe was poor. The waitress was happy to answer our questions for us, which I thought was great.

In conclusion the service of the cafe was slightly under average, and more than slightly below my expectations.

When I first entered Alleycat, I was surprised at how silent the little corner cafe was. It had faint music in the background which created a lovely atmosphere for the experience.

In the middle of our trip, the cafe started to get a bit more crowded, and by the end of my experience the cafe was very busy. These factors led to a friendly atmosphere to add to the already comfortable environment.

The dress code was simple, casual clothes as although the setup and decor was beautiful and creative, it was still a casual corner shop.

As the waitress of Alleycat brought the plate with my gingerbread man on it, it had a dull, plain appearance, and wasn’t very fancy. As it was brought closer, my theories of the boredom the of appearance of the food was confirmed as you would see similar things all the time.

To contrast with the simple appearance, the scent of the gingerbread man was loud and bold, with a strong ginger smell and a subtle sweetness, to contrast with it’s slight tang of spice.

The taste of the dish was similar to the scent, sweet and spicy, but it was unique, meaning that the gingerbread man was moist, yet, somehow dry. It was delectable, delicious and to die for. A small explosion of contrasting tastes formed in my mouth to make a certain beauty in taste as opposed to the beast in the appearance.

The texture was as unique and different as the taste. It was rough and smooth with a crunch and a bite, and every crunch and every bite was worth savouring with it’s texture blending with it’s taste. It melted in my mouth but stayed until it was swallowed.

The Alleycat Cafe is located in the corner of Theatre Place, which is it’s only location, as there are no franchises.

It is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and it has been running for 3 and a half years, owned by a man named Peter, but there is no Head Chef.

In conclusion to my personal opinions, I feel that the atmosphere of the cafe is amazing, however the service is quite poor. I feel that the theme of this cafe wouldn’t appeal to younger customers. I believe this is not a family type of place as the tables are not for large amounts of people, but are great for pairs or individual customers.

I would say that Alleycat is a great place for desserts and morning and afternoon tea snacks, yet they also have the dishes for a nice lunch.

My final recommendation would be that Alleycat Cafe is a great place to have little snack, or a simple lunch, for couples or someone who wants to spend their meals alone.
