Fire too good for Lynx

TOWNSVILLE: Townsville fire have been able to stay in the spotlight for another year after the pulled out a 2-0 win in the league's first ever best of three series.

The fire had their hopes up after they managed to pull out a 73-57 win in game 1 of the best of three series. Fire centre Suzy Batkovic managed to score a game high of 25 points and grabbing nine rebounds while fire guard Micaela Cocks had 15 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
Lynx star guard Sami Whitcomb led her side with 20 points while teammate Betnijah Laney had 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.
“I thought over the course of the game we had a super effort defensively.” Fire coach Chris Lucas said after th
e game. “There were some momentum swings but the girls did a great job.”
The fire went into game 2 strong knowing that they were only a step away from being crowned the champions. Fire ended up sweeping away a 80-70 win. Natalie Novosel top scored with 18 points while Suzy Batkovic had 16 points and grabbed 16 rebounds. Mia Murray also had 16 points plus Micaela Cocks 13 points.
The lynx had four double figures scorers led by Betnijah Laney and Carley Mijovic both scoring 16 points along with Sami Whitcombs 15 points and 10 rebounds and Tessa Laveys 10 points and eight rebounds.
Micaela Cocks won the grand final MVP for her efforts.
