Cyberbullying Insight

You make ask, what really is cyberbullying? It is a type of bullying done through social media platforms or technology devices, for example, hateful messages are sent to other people or embarrassing photos taken of them. The reason that it can be so dangerous is due to the fact that it can be sent around very quickly.

Cyber bullying is an ongoing problem in today’s technology savvy population. Why is cyberbullying really that bad? Many different people can view it and take part in it etc, passing the message/photo on. It can also be used to make a rumour. Often, it is done with the bully creating a fake profile on social media in order to hide under an anonymous name so they don’t get caught. People might also set up fake accounts using your name and pretend to be you, which is a concerning thought.

It is obvious that cyberbullying has a negative impact on the victim as it can affect them immensely: making them feeling guilty and as if they are to blame, resulting in stress and feeling extremely unsafe and afraid. Concerningly, in most cases the victim tries to hide how they are feeling from others.

If the person that is being bullied uses technology often, it is very hard for them to escape. Cyberbullying is a different issue to normal bullying as it is everywhere and will never fade as it can be saved by multiple people. They check their device as you’re walking home - it’s there. They check it when they get home - it’s there. This is how dangerous it can be.

As new technology progressed on, it became easier for cyber bullying to happen. It is the result of new technology development as was practically impossible for it to happen 20 years ago due to the lack of technology.
