Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone Book Review

By Jessica Chipperfield

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.K Rowling is a much loved children's book aimed for older children. The series has seven books in it. Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone is the first one. Since the books were written popular movies were made. Unfortunately none of them were as good as the books.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was released in June 1997 By J.K Rowling. The K stands for Kathleen her paternal grandmother's name. It was a great success. In the book Harry finds out he is a wizard and goes to a school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It has glamour and plenty of mystery and leading to a showdown with evil. A strange wizard with links to Harry attempts to return and the end is nail biting. A constant stream of challenges that must be completed to stop He Who Must Not Be Named (Lord Voldemort).

My favourite part is when Harry finds out he is a wizard. All the owls and the letters coming through the chimney make a hilarious and hugely entertaining read or scene.

My favourite character is Ginny. Ginny is Ron’s (Harry's best friend’s) sister and is the only girl out of the seven Weasley children. She is very excitable and has a crush on Harry.

The Harry Potter books were written by Joanne Rowling who was born in 1965 in Chepstow, Gwent. She went to the Exeter University and got a French and classics degree. Joanne started writing the Harry Potter series on a delayed train from Manchester to Kings Cross. She then moved to Portugal and married in 1993. The couple had a child named Jessica and later broke up. Joanne and Jessica moved back to the U.K and Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was published in 1997.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was published in 1997 followed by Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in 1998. The third book in the series, the Prisoner of Azkaban was published in 1999 with the fourth book, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire published one year later in 2000. The fifth book, the longest in the series was Harry Potter And The Order of the Phoenix . It was published in 2003 with the second last book Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince published in 2005. The final book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was published in 2007.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is an amazing book and I truly recommend it. Get lost in the world of Harry Potter!
