Homework? The Debate

Should kids have homework?

Should kids do homework? There are many pros and cons of having homework. Let's look at them in further detail.

Firstly, kids should have homework as it improves their sense of organisation. It will help them during their later years when they go to work and need many organisation skills. Also, it helps them to revise over what has been done during school and makes the best of their learning.

Homework helps children learn to use resources, such as libraries and reference materials to find information. In the 21st century, children are less likely to use stereotypical “old” style references but some information can only be obtained through reference materials, therefore making the child search through reference books and teaching them how to use it.

But, should kids really do homework?

The first reason that children should not be given homework is that they need time to relax and take their minds off work. After all, they have spent six hours at school. The pressure of having to complete homework after school is quite daunting for most children and they need time to refresh their minds.

Homework can cause conflict between children and parents when the parent forces the child to do their homework but meets resistance from the student to do a overwhelming task.

What do you think? Should children do homework because it improves their organisation and it teaches them to use resources or should they not do homework as it can cause conflict and is stressful.
